Production Process

Demerara sugar - unlike its white counterpart - boasts a unique production process. Firstly, the sugarcane is crushed and the juice obtained, is boiled down to a thick syrup. Then, the syrup is minimally processed allowing natural molasses and sugar crystals to form. Finally, the mixture is dried and broken into coarse, golden crystals with a rich caramel flavour.

Benefits

Due to its minimal processing, the Demerara sugar will still retain a small amount of molasses, providing a deeper more complex sweetness compared to regular white sugar. Furthermore, it will contain traces of minerals like calcium, iron, and potassium, making it healthier than white sugar. With its coarse crystals adding a delightful crunch to cookies or granola bars, and the molasses content bringing a subtle caramel richness to the beverages that use it. Demerara sugar shines in baking and in the making of beverages. For those seeking a natural sweetener with a touch of depth and texture, Demerara sugar offers a delicious and distinctive alternative.
