The crushing industry is one which has hazards and challenges. Among all the other things done, ensuring safety of everyone at the site is important.  For creating a safe workplace, a set of rules must be laid and must be followed strictly. At Hailstone, we have a well-defined set of rules.

Employees must be trained enough to not only identify potential hazards but also inform the persons concerned about it, immediately. Each and every one must understand that safety is their responsibility. Companies should go all out to promote a safety culture.

Comprehensive risk assessment must be done at regular intervals so that safety quotient can be increased. All equipment must be checked and preventive maintenance steps must be implemented.  Proper guarding of machinery and equipment will ensure that moving parts of the equipment do not harm people at work and protect them from entrapment hazards.  Workers must be educated about proper lockout or tagout procedure and they must follow it diligently.

Whenever a maintenance or repair work is undertaken on machines, it is wise to keep it isolated. Training the workers about emergency protocol is also very important. Workers must use personal protective equipment while at work.  These include ear protection, safety helmet, eye protection, protective gloves, safety boots, mask of breathing apparatus.

Regular monitoring of the workplace will ensure workers follow safety procedures and potential safety issues are addressed promptly.

Health hazards like respiratory problems should also be properly addressed. Dust extraction systems, ventilation and use of water jets can control dust.   For employees who have to work at elevated areas, appropriate fall protection equipment must be kept handy. They must also be trained accordingly.

The products which come from Hailstone are manufactured in conformance to Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).  We advise our customers to follow these general safety rules strictly – no maintenance or repair work should be done on any part of the equipment while in operation, no access to equipment immediately after switch off and warning stickers should be displayed at all prominent places on the equipment.
